What is Insurance?

Protection against a financial loss.    There are several types of risks that can be covered by insurance for day-to-day living.  A few are floods, fire, auto accidents, lawsuits, illness, and insurance is available to help protect you against financial hardships caused by the unexpected losses of accidents, property losses, and death.
Auto Insurance:  Financial loss protection if you are involved in an auto accident.
Bodily Injury Liability: Covers your legal liability for bodily injury claims brought against you.
Property Damage Liability: Covers your legal liability for property damage claims brought against you.
Medical  Payments: Covers the medical expense for injuries sustained by you, resident relatives and other people in your auto as the result of an accident.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists: Provides coverage when you are injured in an accident caused by another person who either has no insurance or who has lower insurance than you carry and which is insufficient to cover your damage. Some states require that this coverage also include property damage.
Collision: Pays for damage to your auto caused by collision or upset.
Comprehensive:   Pays for damage to you car not involving a collision with another car or upset.  Examples are: Fire, Contact with animal, Glass Breakage, Theft, Falling Objects, Flood

Deductibles: choosing higher deductibles for collision and comprehensive is an easy and cost-effective way to lower your auto insurance bill.
Discounts: Multi-policy, Multi-car, Safe Driver, Claims Free, Age 55 and older, College Student, Driver Training, Accident Prevention.
Types of Insurance
Homeowners InsuranceFinancial loss protection for damage to the home caused by a covered peril or a liability loss at the insured location.   Available in two forms:

Actual Cash Value:  Value of replacement costs less depreciation
Replacement Cost:  Covers labor, materials, and replacement service costs without a deduction for depreciation cost
Included in a standard homeowners insurance policy are four basic coverages:
Coverage for the Structure of your home and other structures
Coverage for you personal belongings
Additional living expenses in the event you are temporarily unable to live in your home because of a fire or other insured loss

Replacement Cost; Sewer and Drain Backup; Earthquake Insurance; Jewelry, Furs, Guns, or Collectibles; Identity Recovery; Roof and Siding Restoration

Term Insurance:  Coverage for a specified period of time for a specified amount of insurance coverage.
Cash Value Insurance:  Combination of death benefit and a cash value component
